The world is generating more data than our networks can efficiently move, process and store. With billions of sensors becoming part of factories, machines, vehicles and connected devices, this challenge is only accelerating. We believe the answer is not simply building bigger networks but making data itself smarter and more efficient.
That is why we built bitteiler. Born from research at TU Dresden, bitteiler develops AI-powered, mathematically lossless compression technology that learns the patterns in sensor data and dramatically reduces the amount of data that needs to be transmitted and stored, without losing information. We are building technology that can run from the sensor and edge all the way to the cloud, helping create faster, more efficient and more sustainable connected systems.
Today, bitteiler is a multi-award-winning deep tech company, backed by significant German government and European Union funding and support, demonstrating strong confidence in both our technology and our vision. Over the past years, we have transformed cutting-edge research into real technology, built a strong international team and brought our solutions closer to industrial applications. Now we are growing our team with new talent to scale our technology, expand its real-world impact and help shape the future of data efficiency.
What you will work on
You will work closely with our founders and engineering team to bring bitteiler's compression technology onto real hardware, from microcontrollers at the sensor to gateways at the edge.
Your work will include:
- Implementing and optimizing bitteiler's compression codecs in C for microcontrollers and other resource-constrained targets
- Porting compression agents from Python prototypes to production firmware without sacrificing bit-exact lossless reconstruction
- Profiling and reducing RAM, flash, cycle count and energy consumption on real hardware
- Integrating compression into existing sensor firmware, RTOS environments and communication stacks
- Bringing up evaluation hardware and building test benches for measurement on physical devices
- Building automated test, regression and benchmarking infrastructure for embedded targets
- Validating compression performance across different MCUs, sensors, sampling rates and transmission protocols
- Working with our AI and research engineers to make models that are efficient by construction, not just after optimization
- Supporting the integration of bitteiler technology into customer and partner hardware platforms
- Contributing to technical documentation, reference implementations, prototypes and product development
You may occasionally join the team at industry events and technology exhibitions to demonstrate our technology and discuss technical challenges with partners and customers.
What we are looking for
You do not need to match every requirement. We value strong technical fundamentals, hands-on experience and the ability to turn ideas into working systems.
- Master's degree or equivalent engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or a related technical field
- Strong programming skills in C, and comfort reading and writing C++ where needed
- Hands-on experience developing firmware for microcontrollers, ideally ARM Cortex-M or comparable architectures
- Experience working under real memory, flash, latency and power constraints, and profiling to prove it
- Familiarity with embedded toolchains, debuggers, cross-compilation and version control
- Working knowledge of Python for tooling, test automation and data analysis
- Understanding of at least one relevant area such as signal processing, data compression, real-time systems, IoT or communication networks
- Ability to write clean, maintainable and well-documented code
- Fluent English and willingness to work in a dynamic, international startup environment
Nice to have
- Experience with TinyML or running inference on microcontrollers, CMSIS-NN, TFLite Micro or similar embedded ML runtimes
- Familiarity with LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, MQTT, BLE or other constrained communication protocols
- Experience with hardware bring-up, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers or power profiling tools
- Exposure to industrial IoT, predictive maintenance or sensor hardware development
What we offer
- A full-time position in Dresden with 30 days of paid vacation
- Flexible working hours
- Direct collaboration with the founders and significant technical ownership from day one
- The opportunity to work on cutting-edge deep tech combining embedded systems, AI, data compression and industrial IoT
- Opportunities to attend leading technology fairs, conferences and industry events in Germany and internationally
- Strong opportunities for professional growth as bitteiler scales
- The opportunity to participate in bitteiler's long-term success through company shares
